Lofte 7D Bombsight
All,
Going through survivors reports for ships damaged/sunk in 1943 and it was surprising to see so many ships sunk or damaged by FW200 attacks as a result of medium height bombing attacks. The advantage given to the FW200 would appear to be the new Lofte 7D bombsight. What was so good or what was the innovation to this new bombsight that made it so accurate in the anti shipping role at medium level attacks? I haven't done any comparative research itno other bombsights (allied or axis) but it does seem this eqiupment was better than its counterparts. Is there any info available on its specifications or comparitive to other bombsights in use during the war? Regards, Mark |

Re: Lofte 7D Bombsight
There seems to be a good explanation of the sight here. The D version was used in the FW200.
It appears that it had some real advantages over the Norden, for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotfernrohr_7 |
