Re: Squadron Code for 105 OTU (Jan-1944)??

Yes, this is correct 105 OTU at RAF Bramcote used codes I5 (thats an I and a 5 not to be confused with number fifteen).

The unit also used 8F of which Wellington Mk X (MF512) used 8F-R while Dakota KJ875 used double letter code of 8F-GE.

Air Britain also suggests 7Z was used.

Lastly if you are researching 105 OTU and you find a photo of Wellington Mk 1 R1629 then let me know as it had a pioneering role in radar development prior to 105 OTU!

R1629 was taken on charge by No.105 (Transport) OTU at RAF Bramcote, on 9th September 1943. Some of the Wellington aircraft used by 105 OTU had Vickers Warwick dual controls fitted in order to prepare pilots for Warwick equipped RAF Transport Squadrons but whether R1629 had these is not known. Unfortunately R1629 did not last very long in service with No. 105 OTU, as two weeks later on 24th September 1943 it was hit on the ground by another 105 OTU Wellington, R1412, which swerved on landing at Bramcote. Sadly R1629 was deemed beyond repair and was struck of charge on 1st October 1943.
