Japanese pilots position during carrier launch
Heh Guys, I wonder if anyone can help with this. I've noticed in photos and film clips of Japanese aircraft (particularly zeros) launching from carriers that some pilots look to be almost standing in the cockpit. I expect it's to get a better view over the nose of the aircraft but does anybody know if they actually stood or just leaned out of the seat?
Many thanks for any help. |

Re: Japanese pilots position during carrier launch
Zero pilot could raise the height of his seat for carrier take-off and landing. Once airborne he would then lower the seat and then close the canopy.
