American Bombers Fly From Okinawa for the First Time

July 15, 1945: 11th Bomb Group B-24 Liberators with P-47 Thunderbolt escorts flew for the first time from recently-secured Okinawa to bomb targets in Japan. They hit aircraft and dispersal areas in northeast Kyushu. One P-47 was lost on the return flight.
