Aircraft Pics - Egypt 1945 1/6
Hi,
My father took a number of pictures while is was in the Middle East with the RAF in 1945-47. Attached are the first ten of approximately 60 that I thought you may be interested in viewing. Please feel free the add any comments, corrections, or suggestions - any extra information on the Aircraft themselves would be most helpful. Re: Aircraft Pics - Egypt 1945 1/6
Wonderful pictures. It is always cheering to find a selection of photos from second-line units and bases, showing unusual types or just familiar types in unusual places or times.
However, I suspect the B-17G wasn't destroyed at Poltava. Damaged maybe. The Russians weren't into repairing them and returning to their owners: anything repairable ended up in their own use given their almost complete lack of such kind of aircraft. |

Re: Aircraft Pics - Egypt 1945 1/6
The B17 must have had some work done or was being used as a hack. No armament, tail, ball turret, top turret or chin cowl. No squadron markings, letterings or squadron/group markings on the fin. Fin serial looks new? and is it in a different location/size.
