Hawker...

Greetings all,

first at all, I have no idea about source of this image so I put this Copyright label over it. So if anybody recognize this please let us know credit (and for proper handling in PC folders)

Now my question is did any of you know more about aircraft in background, Typhoon or Tempest, not sure. Pale cowling is of interest.

Cheers

Re: Hawker...

3-blade prop and the cowling "embedded" in the wing root means this is a Typhoon. Strange colours, yes. At this stage of the war the Tiffie spinner should have been black.

Re: Hawker...

The light colour on the nose is just faded Ocean Grey, to my eye. The dark panel on the fuselage over the wing appears more unusual, perhaps a replacement panel or a fresh repaint?

Re: Hawker...

This pic was taken in the U.S. at the end of the war. I believe it is Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
The six digit # in the upper right indicates the photo is most likely from NARA ( US National Archives & Record Administration).

The Typhoon was tested by the US at Wright Pat. I have these pictures on my home computer. I can post them later tonight.

Regards,

Re: Hawker...

This also accounts for the Sky spinner.

Re: Hawker...

Yes, correct note Stein

I spent last hour in searching for some images from my collection and note one small image of Tempest, photographed in flight from bottom, it have mounted under wing cannons but wing bottom panels show variations in tone, like the some panels are in different colors or even natural metal (hard to believe in that...). I have no scanner but I can take image with my camera, to regret not to be good match. Is this any test sample or operational sample?
