Sub-Lt(A) Waddington, 759 Sqn FAA 3/2/45?
Hello again everyone
Another quick question...on February 3rd 1945 Sub-Lt (A) Peter Waddington of 759 Sqn was killed in an air crash. He was from Eaglescliffe, County Durham, and is buried in Yeovilton Churchyard, so presumably the crash occurred in that area. Can anyone give any further details? Regards Simon |

His death was registered in the Yeovil district, so yes, he died in that area. Beyond that, I can't add anything.

Air-Britain's FAA Aircraft 1939-45 says that he was killed in Corsair JS610 when it bounced on landing, dropped a wing, overturned and was burned out. This was presumably at Yeovilton where 759 was based.

Re: Sub-Lt(A) Waddington, 759 Sqn FAA 3/2/45?
The US Navy serial website (that is listing the fate of many aircraft that went to Fleet Air Arm) has the following:
Corsair III JS610 (for US Navy, Brewster F3A-1 Corsair Buno 08605) bounced on landing at RNAS Yeovilton Feb 3, 1945, dropped wing, swung, overturned, caught fire and burned out. Pilot killed. http://www.joebaugher.com/navy_seria...rdseries1.html The above confirming the accident was at Yeovilton. |
