Königliche Ungarische Jagdstaffel with II./JG 3

Hello all,

Happy new year!

Who can please provide more details on the Königliche Ungarische Jagdstaffel which was with II./Jagdgeschwader 3 "Udet" at Charkow in 1943? Pilots of II./JG 3 helped training the pilots of the Ungarische Jagdstaffel. Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Rob

Re: Königliche Ungarische Jagdstaffel with II./JG 3

Hello Rob,

In late January 1943, the Staff of the 5/I. Fighter Group of the MKHL left for Kursk, then went to Kharkov and finally to Uman, where they continued training on the Bf 109F-2/F-4.

Is this the time period you had in your mind? Do you have other specifics on this event?

Re: Königliche Ungarische Jagdstaffel with II./JG 3

Hello Dénes,

Thanks for your reply.

Time should be more like June-July 1943. Pilots of 5./JG 3 trained the Ungarische pilots for sure. For their help the pilots of 5./JG 3 received in September 1943 the Medaille zum Kgl. Ung. Verdienstenorden mit Schw. in Silber (are listings with names available??). The Ungarische Jagdstaffel was also known as Puma-Staffel and operated from Charkow together with II./JG 3.

Hope you can help me with further details.

Best regards,
Rob

At the end of January, the Staff of the 5/I. Group went to Kharkov, then in February to Konotop, after that to Kiew, then to Vinnitza.

Rob,

I don't know, what you are looking for exactly. Would you specific your question?

Re: Königliche Ungarische Jagdstaffel with II./JG 3

Hi Csaba,

Thanks for your reply. I am looking for data relating to the Ung Jagdgstaffel which operated together with II./JG 3 in the summer of 1943 near Charkow. Interested in names, activities, experiences, combats, reports, pictures, stories, names of II./JG 3 pilots who were awarded with the Medaille etc. Hope you can help me in this matter.

Names of pilots of 5./JG 3 who trained the ung. pilots were among others Oberleutnant Joachim Kirschner (Staffelkapitän) and Leutnant Walter Bohatsch.

Looking forward to your input. Your time and info is much appreciated.

Best regards,
Rob

Re: Königliche Ungarische Jagdstaffel with II./JG 3

Hi Rob,

Well, a lot of questions and a very complex topic.
In short, it was the second and last group of Hungarian Messerschmitt pilots, who were re-trained in the Eastern Front by a German combat unit (the first one was in late autumn, 1942 by I./JG 52). Later in 1943 a permanent German Bf 109 training group arrived to Hungary, so the pilots were re-trained at home.
As for their combat activity, we discussed a little in 2005 about Kirschner and Hungarians. I'll drop you an e-mail.

See you soon,
