First Me262 combat
Hi guys
I believe Ltn Alfred Schreiber of Erpkdo.262 claimed the first 'victory' for the Me262 when he intercepted a PR Mosquito on 26 July 1944. I have readthat the Mosquito was from 542 Squadron. Is this correct, since I believe a 680 Squadron Mosquito was involved. Please clarify. Cheers Brian |

Re: First Me262 combat
Hi Brian,
The Mosquito belonged to 544 Sqn (542 Sqn never operated Mossies). The ORB gives the date of interception as 25 Jul 44. F/L A.E. WALL and F/O A.S. LOBBAN in MM273 were attacked six times in a twenty minute period after leaving the Munich area. They were operating from Benson but made an emergency landing at Fermo in Italy. I'm aware that Schreiber's claim is given as having occured on the 26 Jul 44 but both the F.540 and F.541 of the 544 Sqn ORB give the date as 25 Jul 44, but I think this is probably the same incident. Best Regards Andy Fletcher
