Who sank the Volonte?
On 12th July 1940 the Grimsby trawler Volonte was sunk off the East Coast of Iceland. Kenneth Poolman asserts in his book Focke-Wulf Condor - Scource of the Atlantic that the trawler was sunk by a FW 200 of the KG 40, but this seems highly unlikely considering the activities of the squadron on that date. Mr. Harry C. Hutson who has written a book on the Grimsby trawler fleet during the war, believes that the Volonte was sunk by a Heinkel HE 111 operating out of Norway. Can anyone confirm this and give me information on the pilot and the squadron involved?
