2/Lt Lindsey McCall 379thBS killed 24/12/43

Hi guys

Can anyone identify his aircraft serial number?

Also, on this same date, four other crewmen of the 479thBS received wounds. I can't find names. Presumably each awared Purple Star. Is there any way of finding out just who they were?

Here's hoping
Brian

Re: 2/Lt Lindsey McCall 379thBS killed 24/12/43

Brian,

2ndLt Lindsey L McCall, O-739979, was in the 379th BS, 310th BG. He is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery in Carthage, Tunisia. He is not reported in a MACR, which means either the aircraft he was on was not shot down and he was brought back to base, or he was killed in a non-aviation accident on the ground. I do not find an accident report for the 310th BG for this date either.

Your reference to the 479th BS has to be a typo for 379th BS. Possibly they were on the same plane as McCall (if his death was combat related). You will have to get the squadron or group records from Maxwell to check.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Hello Brian,

You will find what happens to this airman (and the wounded) there:
http://57thbombwing.com/379th_History/History12.pdf

To say it shortly, this day four B-25 of the 379th BS were damaged by Flak during a ship attack off Greece, McCall was killed and 4 men wounded.

Best regards

Thanks Frank and Laurent

Yes, typo on my part (late night!) 379th is correct.

I had checked that source but no names, no serial numbers.

Thanks again
Brian
