Looking for photos/info on 3.(F)/122 He111H-2, F6+NL down in Sweden 03.06.40
Hello,
I'm looking for photos and information on the above He111H, WNr.5575 for an EoE color profile reference package. There were three photos of the plane force-landed near Gaddede, Sweden on an internet site, which I can't bring up at present: http://www.forcedlandingcollection.se/LWe/indexLW.html. I'm particularly interested in port-side views of the a/c and whether or not it carried any unit insignia on the either (or both) side of the nose. Who can help or provide photos for the artwork package? Regards, |

Re: Looking for photos/info on 3.(F)/122 He111H-2, F6+NL down in Sweden 03.06.40
Hello,
This answered my question about the unit insignia. I interpret all six photos now on the website as indicating that this a/c carried no unit insignia on the nose. We carry this in the Revised EoE Luft DB: "June 3, 1940: 3.(F)/122 Heinkel He111H-2 (5575). Lost bearings due to instrument failure following reconnaissance sortie to Lofoten, strayed across the border, and belly-landed near Gäddede in neutral Sweden 5.30 a.m. Lt Günther Wentz, Insp Kr [ ] Klanke, and rest of crew all unhurt – interned but repatriated 12 July. Aircraft F6+NL 100% write-off." Apparently we still need the names, ranks and crew positions for the members of this crew. Does anyone know when and how the a/c was repatriated to Germany? How can help? Regards, |

Larry,
That site gives the names;
Acc to Bo Widfeldt book "Tyska nödlandare 1939-1945" and that site, the crew was interned for a short while in Kronobergshed and was sent home 12 july 1940. The plane was taken apart and sent to Germany by railway 23 nov 1940. Hope this helps Peter |

Peter:
Thanx. I presume that Uffz Volk would have been the Bordfunker. I'm sure that Peter Cornwell will pick this up and modify out DB entry with this information. Thanks to both Robert and Peter for helping nail this one down for the EoE color profile section. Regards, |
