RAF Claims around Anzio 06-04-1944

In researching the Beobachter in the following loss:

1944-04-06, 1.(F)/123, Ju 88T-1, 1131, 4U+JH, 20 km südwestlich Anzio, Luftkampf mit Spitfires um 15.15 Uhr (Start 13.55). Bruch 100 %.

Flugzeugführer: Unteroffizier Hans Holeschowski +
Beobachter: Leutnant Werner Salecker, vermißt
Bordfunker; Unteroffizier Heinz Thumm, vermißt
Bordschütze: Unteroffizier Gottlieb Schulz, vermißt

I am hoping someone can hopefully highlight the RAF Squadrons which might of been involved in this action, or even the identity of the pilot who claimed this aircraft.

I appreciate this is probably a needle in a haystack scenario however, it is worth asking the question.

Any help whatsoever will be very much appreciated.

Regards Richard.

Re: RAF Claims around Anzio 06-04-1944

The combat reports for the 4 Spitfires IX of 111 Squadron can be found at Air 27/871, frames/pages 52, 53, 54, 56. Time of the combat is given as 1510, location as 12 m out to sea, S of Anzio, L.8893. The four pilots involved are F/Lt David Franklin Livingstone RNZAF, MJ156/M; F/O Alan Frederick Lane RAAF, MH535/S; W/O Donald James Hulbert, MJ191/V' and F/Sgt R E Filmer, MH426/X.

There was also a claim for a Ju-88 by 2 Spitfire Vc pilots of 4 SAAF Sqn, at 1540, NW of Perugia LG. The Sortie Report is in SR: Air 54/39-29517, 29518. The time does not match however, and the location is inland, so this is probably not a match.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Frank

Thank you for adding the extra information on this matter, it is a real bonus to be able to pin down the place and brief circumstances of the demise of the Junkers Ju-88 in question.

One final question, where can I locate the file 'Air 27/871, frames/pages 52, 53, 54, 56.?'

Thanks again for your help.

Regards Richard.

Richard,
Air 27 is the collection of ORBs at the National Archives/Public Record Office in Kew, England, just outside of London. They have a website, and you may be able to order copies of the individual pages online, for a fee.

Enjoy!

Frank.
