Hello All;

I'm trying to find information on this man, who shot down his first two aircraft on the 18/19th July 1944. What became of him, and what was the total number of his Claims??

I am fairly certain (without checking my records) that Zimmermann was a victim of 604 Sqn but survived as I have seen a letter written by him after the war to the family of Hptm Helmut Bergmann about what happened that night

Zimmermann günter fw,akt, f x 170221-Ketschendorf-215710/21

In docs. reported as missing , appeared not later in the losses, NJG4 is a very prefered unit of Ultra-listener, Zimmermann appear till june 44 not after, so as Chris as seen trace of him after wae we could suppose he was made a prisoner, by the way is there a list of the prisoners made during the war by the allies ???

Hello all,

Was there no follow-up on this thread? Chris, I had access to all of Helmut Bergmann's original papers, I don't remember seeing a letter from Gunter Zimmerman to the Bergmann family about 6/7 August 1944, do you have more information on that?

Re: FW Gunter ZIMMERMAN, 8./NJG4

There was no follow up to this thread. The letter written to Bergmann's father was dated 31 Mar 48 and is his account of what happened that night. It says they were carrying out Tiefangriff at 600-800 metres and that he was shot down at 0115 hrs (by what he doesn't say) and that he was told afterwards that two aircraft were shot down that night one of which exploded (which was not his). Surman claimed his Bf 110 at 0105 hrs observing an explosion on the port engine after which it dropped like a stone and exploded on the ground
