Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

According to Prien, the 109 units claimed 258 "kills" on the first day of "Barbarossa" but Cajus Bekker talks of 322.
What about the claims of other units (ZG, Sch.G, KG...)?
Do they close the gap?

Chris

Hi
The following may be of interest
If you go to the following link

http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&sour...3a06b86d76345e

it will give you a list of 59 Luftwaffe Pilots who made claims on that day.

I have not looked at them.

Search term used
Site:www.luftwaffe.cz 22.6.1941

The word Site must be used when searching. This is a Google Search Engine function, not sure if it works with others

Re: Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

Thanks Ross, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for.
Individual claims by 109 pilots are well documented.
What I'm interested in are claims by Zerstörer and Schlacht pilots.

Re: Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

The most combat losses Soviet avaition were over Wester Front agains 3 mixed air division (9., 10., 11. SAD) there were not so many air battles during the whole day, mostly against bombers, fighters less agians destroyers, dive bombers.

SKG 210, if right remeber had claimed, 8 air victories, most next were destroyed planes on the ground.
ZG 26 at least 3 Soviet bombers shot down and destroyed over Czerleny - it was 3 SB (but it could be Pe-2s instead SBs?) of 16. SBAP.

Destroyers had done many ground attack, but they did not fought many air battles as Me 109s did. The single engined fighter had much more occasion to air fighting, then Me 110s during whole day.

Me 110s fought rather incidentaly like over Czerleny, Małe Zwody (74. SzAP and SKG 210 - 1 shot down/destroyed I-153). So they did not have many occasion to air duels during whole day.
The same situation over North-Western Front (ZG 26), where there were not so many air duels and Soviet losses in air were small (Soviet lost in all total 56 destroyed planes from all reasons)

64 air victories achived by destroyers or other assult units are rather impossible, but if you add bomber's crew claims, which were more often attacked by Soviet fighters (since begining 4-5 a.m.) and they always have many air claims, so this figure could be achived. I do not have data about each LW's units.

Other thing is real Soviet losses during these air combats, of coures were less.

Regards,
mirekw

Re: Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

BTW
2 corrections:

1. There are 322 Soviet planes shot down by fighters and A/A units (!)during 22.06.41, such information is given in Polish translation of C. Bekker's book. So A/A units victories are included in total figure of Luftwaffe succes agains Soviets.
It would be interested to know the exacte data of their claims?

2. SKG 210 had claimed 12 victories (not 8) on 22.06.41.

Regards,
mirekw

Re: Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

Hi Evgeny

Tonys claims list as published has listed a vast amount of whats on the films, but not all. Buried in one of the "ubersicht" films is a list in late 1943 early 1944 of claims made by St G 77 submitted in response to a request from Berlin to send all info on claims etc. Tony missed it as appears have most others. St G 77 had by that time inherited the SG 1 unit that was drawn from SKG 210. In those lists are a very nice typed list of approx 90 claims, including the 22 .06.41 claims. Druschel for example made 5 claims, including one of the very earliest on the day.

Send me a PM and I will send you the list.

Regards

Russell

Re: Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

(1) I was wondering if there is a list similar to the one that Tony Wood did but indicating claims from the Luftwaffe or even the SS and Heer Flak Divisions.

(2) Mirek: Does the C. Bekker book have some sort of listing like I have mentioned?

Thank you.

Michael

Re: Luftwaffe claims on 22 June 1941

To Evgeny
I have checked, it was not I, II/ SKG 210, but only I/ SKG 210, its pilot had claimed 8 air victories and 344 destroyed on the ground, according W. Stricker, who was in command of I/SKG 210.

So there are open claims of II/SKG 210?

Regards
mirekw.
