Sources - bombing of Soviet rail lines 42
Looking for sources about the German bomber attacks in 1942 that were intended to interdict the front at Stalingrad, targeting the Urbah–Top Baskunchak–Zaplavnoye rail line through Kazakhstan. German bombers made about extensive attacks on rail infrastructure, as far away as Kazakhstan, including Shungai station, Saikhin and Dzhanybek.
The recent Osprey on Il-2 units has a brief mention of them being pressed into service as night fighters in defense of these targes.

Part of the answer may lie in this discussion
http://www.armchairgeneral.com/forum...=130750&page=6 The are several Russian and western historians of the GPW who lurk there and it is possible with patience & persistance to get some good sources out of those pros. Good luck |
