Re: Old film with pilot and aircraft
Here is a start on an answer:
This P-47, 42-26716, E4-K, was in the 362nd FG, 377th FS. At this time in the war a color film was being made about the 362nd FG. That film (or significant parts of it) was used as the basis of documentary on the History Channel called “Thunderbolt, Conquest of the Reich”. I don't know if the History Channel used all of the original film in their documentary or not. I suspect this clip may have been an “out-take” from the original WWII film. You can probably still order the History Channel documentary. http://docuwiki.net/index.php?title=...t_of_the_Reich Here are some shots of the plane in the air. The first frame has the name Lt Col Wm Clothier. I don't think he is the pilot, rather he is the cameraman taking the photos. His name shows as the cameraman on the 2nd clip below. I believe he was with the 4th CCU. Note the 4th CCU is credited for the pictures on the link you gave. http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65...-another-plane http://resources.ushmm.org/film/disp...?file_num=2356 If you look at other clips on CriticalPast.com featuring the 362nd, many of which are gun camera shots done in April/May 45, pilot names from the 377th that appear on the clips are Hunter, Dugan, and Pantoliano so he could well be one of those. I found the full names to be Lt Thomas D Pantoliano, Lt Clifford E Dugan, and Lt Joseph E Hunter ( later Captain in 378th Sq) Last edited by RSwank; 2nd October 2012 at 00:32. |

Re: Old film with pilot and aircraft
Hi,
William Clothier was in fact a famous cinematographer and worked on numerous major films, most of his later work being with John Wayne. During WW2 he was like many other Hollywood film-makers commissioned in the U.S.armed services. Bruce Lander |
