What Publication Are These From?

Hi;

was wondering if anyone could identify the source of these two images. One appears to be a book, the other is some type of mechanical drawing. Both images are sourced from the internet courtesy webcrawler, which would not let me identify the site they came from.

However, I am interested in the original source, be it book, magazine or etc.

Thanks!

Paul

I am not 100 % certain, but the design of the page on the right looks very much like from an After the Battle book, either the BoB T&N or one of the Blitz T&N volumes.

Re: What Publication Are These From?

The one on the right is indeed from one of the ATB publications, namely The Blitz Then & Now Vol 1 (Page 148).

Re: What Publication Are These From?

I have a very large and similar 1970 German Bundeswehr handbook on all WW2 German air dropped weapons with pull out charts and specs etc (just like that on the left) and I suspect your illustration (on left) is a French version of the same.

Re: What Publication Are These From?

It may help you to know that the best publication on this subject that I have seen is:

Fleischer, Wolfgang. Deutsche Abwurfmunition bis 1945 (Stuttgart: Motorbuch Verlag, 2003). ISBN: 3-613-02286-9.

There is now an English language version of this under the title:
"German Air-Dropped Weapons to 1945"

hardcover , 250 pages, $39.95 at amazon.com

This book has drawings and photos of each type of bomb and discusses the fuse variations, etc. It has a very limited amount about bomb racks and makes only cursory reference to bomb sights and sequencers.

I strongly recommend this book if you are interested in German bombs.

Re: What Publication Are These From?

Yup, have both the German and English versions. Unfortunately, I don't find the information very well organized, and it does not tell me what I need to know.

What I am looking for is information on stenciling, colors, and shapes. There are tantalizing tidbits to be found on the web, but nothing that brings it all together in a comprehensive fashion.

Also looking for good info on the ETC501 rack for the Fw-190. Some books have coverage - for instance, Deitmar Hermann's book "Focke-Wulf Fw 190A" (Schiffer) has three pages of close-up views of an early test installation, but no pictures of the installation as it actually appeared on service aircraft.

I have a collection of 5,000 books on military aviation, with over 75 specifically devoted to the Fw-190, and to date, I still have no decent photos of the rear fairing of the ETC501! What is covered, is covered well, but there are still big holes in coverage of WW II Luftwaffe subjects.....
