Looking for crewman names of Do17 from 4.(F)/14 Shot Down during Polish Campaign
Hello,
Do17P 5F+MM was reported to have been shot down during an air battle over Poland on 1 Sept. 1939. The pilot whose name began with a "B" was reported to have bailed out and been captured by Polish forces. What was this pilot's name, and who were the other crewmen and what happened to them? Who can help? Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Re: Looking for crewman names of Do17 from 4.(F)/14 Shot Down during Polish Campaign
Maybe this help a little bit:
"...We wrześniu 1939 roku do działań przeciwko Polsce w 1 i 4 Flocie Powietrznej skierowano ok. 527 tych samolotów. W czasie kampanii wrześniowej stracono w sumie 53 samoloty Do-17, a 29 zostało uszkodzonych. ...'' "... In September 1939, the action against Poland in 1 and 4 Air Fleet sent around ca. 527 of these aircraft. During the September campaign lost a total of 53 aircraft Do-17 and 29 were damaged ....'' '...(F)/14 - We wrześniu 1939 roku 9 samolotów Do-17P z 4 eskadry podlegało dowództwu 14 Armii. ...."' "... (F) / 14 - In September 1939, nine aircraft Do-17P with 4 squadrons subject to command the 14 Army .... "' Source and more: http://pzkpfw.tripod.com/technika/ni...oloty/do17.htm So I think only 9 aircrafts Do-17P from all 53 destroyed Doniers should be checked from September 1939. |

Re: Looking for crewman names of Do17 from 4.(F)/14 Shot Down during Polish Campaign
According to the book by Łukasz Łydźba, "Krakowski III/2 Dywizjon Myśliwski" (Poznań 2012) this crew was shot down by Polish fighter P.11c, led by corporal Jan Kremski, over Brenna (13 kms southwest Bielsko-Biała).
One Leutnant captured by Polish soldiers, two other crewmen KIA. The officer was interrogated in 21.Infantry Division HQ in Bielsko. Sorry, no names are known. |

piters,
Thanx for your comments. I know about the book just published by Lukasz, although I don't yet have a copy. This is the incident for which we're trying to get crew info. There should be an NVM with this info. Maybe Matti knows more about this. Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Unfortunately I have not found a NVM for this. For 1939 NVMs are sometimes fragmentary and even those, which are found normally do not contain aircraft info.

Matti,
Thanx for taking a look. Based upon your experience with casualties, do you have a suggestion as to how we might go about locating the particulars on this crew and a/c loss? Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |

Re: Looking for crewman names of Do17 from 4.(F)/14 Shot Down during Polish Campaign
Sotty, but I have no practical ideas. Perhaps our Polish friends could still find something new? In theory, this could be solved easily, if we had a possibility to have a look at the Russian war booty archive, but so far this is only a dream.
