Re: Need info losses 9AF
GMichalski, what Clin-A 78 is saying is your request is WAY too broad to be taken seriously. There were, literally, thousands of losses by the 9th AAF fighter command. Hopefully, you do not expect people to take the time to gather them and post them for you? It is the equivilent of asking to discuss WWII in detail...............
Do some research on your own. There are web sites with listings as well as a number of very good books. If you have specific questions on a/c, dates, or pilots that you've not been able to find after research, by all means, ask. |

Re: Need info losses 9AF
You can use the search engines of the Aviation Archaeology website:
http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbMACR.htm for MACR http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/dbaf.htm for accidents in Allied territory My advice is to search it by Group numbers, having a list of the units in 9th Air Force should not be difficult. This will not give you all losses, as aircraft shot down or crashed in operations will not be reported in MACR usually if the crash happens on friendly territory or in sea and the crew or their bodies were all found. And accident reports will not show planes lost or damaged beyond repair in operations, except some that were lost at the start of the mission. |

Hello,
Some time ago there was a GREAT 9th AAF WEBSITE. here at : http://www.geocities.com/AF9th.htm but sadly it was never revived. There is/was this site : http://www.publicenquiry.co.uk/history.html Alex Last edited by Alex Smart; 17th January 2013 at 04:59. |

Re: Need info losses 9AF
I'd suggest Stan Bishops books.
Losses of the 8th and 9th Air Forces. http://losses8.webplus.net/ Volume 4 is currently in progress and will cover up until Sept 1944. Stan informs me that co author John Hey has sadly passed away so its Stan thats carrying the baton now. Good luck tracing copies, especially Volume 1. However, if you have specific questions relating to a certain date then I'm sure someone who owns a copy will be able to give you the information listed in the book. All the best, Nige http://56thfightergroup.co.uk/ |
