This topic has been discussed before.
Personally I doubt that the Me 262 was capable of going through the sound barrier except in bits and pieces. My own feeling is that Mutke experienced compressibillity and was lucky enough at lower altitude to reach a lower speed and thereby regain control. Cheers Stig |

Strange... with its fuselage shape and structure that it could fly Mach 1. Bell X-1 have no area rules fuselage but has enough power to make Mach 1. Did the engines Jumo 004 was able to sustained pressure on first stage compressor blade at high speed?
