Fw190 Performance Limitations??

All

Looking for some information pertaining to performance limitations imposed when flying the short nose 190 with the 300 litre long range tank and the ETC-501 rack.

Any information on the maximum speed allowable with the tank fitted, max G allowable and anything else that might be pertinent.
Any help appreciated.

TIA
Dave

Fw 190 Performance Limitations?

Hello Dave

The only thing that I have been able to come up with is that according to the charts included in the Fw 190 A-8 Handbook the speed loss due to the ETC 501 for a Fw 190 A-8:

at 0 km was 12 km/h or 7.5 mph
at 6 km was 16 km/h or 10 mph

The speed loss due to the ETC 501 for a Fw 190 A-8/R2:

at 0 km was 12 km/h or 7.5 mph
at 6 km was 15 km/h or 9.3 mph

It appears that the weight of the ETC 501 was 60.7 kg or 133.8 lbs.

Unfortunately that is all that I can add and I hope that you find this somewhat useful.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Fw190 Performance Limitations??

Hi Leo

Many thanks, I am sure it will be useful. I wonder if there was any 'official' drop tank figures - or if pilots just used trial and error.

regards
Dave

You can be absolutely sure that there were official figures. These things are not left to chance. No store is carried on an aircraft without clearance trials, at which problems are identified and penalties noted.

Not something German efficiency would over look I guess. Now where to find those figures....

Nor anyone else. There is apparently a record of a kitchen sink being carried on a Skyraider, and you can guarantee that didn't pass through official channels! Otherwise, pretty well everything.
