Looking for rank, FN and career info on a Luft Officer named "Peneter"
Hello,
I'm looking for info on a man with the last name of "Peneter," who may have been the Adj of II./KG26 during the winter-spring of 1940. The only person I find with this last name in the Luft Off Career Summary DB is: ""PENETER, Herbert. (DOB: 04.10.11). 24.02.42 Oblt. and pilot with BFS 1 – killed in Ju 52 crash at Fp. Altenhain. 01.04.43 posthumously promo to Hptm. (Kr.O.)." While this could have been him, transferred after service with II./KG26 to a flying school, this isn't enough to establish the connection. I need his rank during the period of the Scandinavian Campaign, his first name, and any relevant service history with II./KG26. Thanx, as usual for your assistance. Re: Looking for rank, FN and career info on a Luft Officer named "Peneter"
When Olt Herbert Peneter was killed on 24.02.1942 he had EKM from 6./KG 26 (62724/xx) given in Spring 1940.

Re: Looking for rank, FN and career info on a Luft Officer named "Peneter"
Matti,
Thanx for researching this in your DB! According to the new Steenbeck book on KG26, "Die Spur des Löwen," P. 80, the Peneter that I'm looking for flew a 6 Staffel a/c on a 3 April 1940 mission, before he flew three more CM in 1H+BC, a Gruppenstab a/c, on 8.4, 9.4 and 10.4.40. So he was either a 6 Staffel pilot, who used a Gruppenstab a/c for his next three missions, or he was promoted to the Gruppenstab from 6 Staffel around the first week of April, 1940. The Gruppenstab a/c that he flew was normally assigned to the unit Adjutant, but this is no proof that he was promoted to that job. Your clue confirms to me that he was the correct person that I'm seeking. Can anyone now confirm his position as Adjutant of II./KG26, his rank a/o 4.40 with the dates of service in that position, and his rank at that time (Lt. or Olt?)? Or, alternatively, confirm that someone else was the Adjutant during this period. Again, my thanx. Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |
