Odd 109G
A bit perplexing. This 109 shows the left rear cowl as per most G-10's, G-14/AS and K-4's. But the supercharger is for a standard 605A. Is the left rear section just a remnant of an AS conversion, like the Ausey machine? Andy

Re: Odd 109G
I don't have a ready answer but that's an Erla built machine, Erla built few G-14/AS aircraft so perhaps they had a surplus of cowlings to use up? Or as you say, it might have been in the process of being backdated from AS to regular version.

Re: Odd 109G
Hi Andy and Anders,
As per its W.Nr, this machine is an Erla Leipzig built Bf 109 G-14/AS W.Nr. 461 174; it was found and photographed in Elbing after 10 March 1945, at the end of the bitter siege of the city. It is a clear case of a "new" airframe which was field re-engined with a DB 605 A in order to have it airworthy again, an obviously failed attempt... Re: Odd 109G
Hello Guys,
this is Bf 109 G14 AS, RLM-Werknummer 461.174, internal Erla-Serial 43.263, built mid/late September 1944 within a G-14AS-block running from 461.160 to 461.200 (41 a/c). Out of this block we have reports of some kind on at least 21 single a/c. Most quickly found their way to the well-known "light" fighter-groups, I/JG 3, II/JG 27 and I/JG 300 in fall 1944. Why 461.174 obviously was not allocated to any front-unit is unclear. HTH Carl
