Loss of He111 on 6 Sept 1939 in Poland

Hello all,

Can someone please provide me the loss details [unit, aircraft, crew, fate etc] of the above He111 over Poland on 6 Sept 1939? I believe the pilot's name could be Manke or something similar.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Andre

According to the book "Luftwaffe nad Polską Vol.III" by Marius Emmerling, this loss did not happen at 1600 hrs, but around 0715 hrs.

The book says that 2 He 111 of Stab KG 1 flew a recon of the Zakowice-Brzeziny-Łódź-Tomaszów area between 0450 and 0715 hrs. One met fighters of 3./ZG 2, 12 Bf 109D of this Staffel escorting Ju 87 of StG 77 this morning, and was shot down.

Crew names and fate are the same as in Matti's source.

Stab KG 1 flew 3 other recon sorties in late morning (no claim or loss) and 3 other in the afternoon, between 1430 and 1630 hrs, suffering again no loss but claiming a PZL shot down when attacked by 6 PZL.

Ahhh so it is Mauke then -- thank you, Matti.

And thank you too, Laurent for the additional info.

I have a logbook entry that says a He111 took off at 04:45 hrs and was shot down by '4 Bf109' in the area of 'Radom' [at least that's what I can make out of the writing]. This gells nicely with the account in Marius' book.

I now believe it is Mauke's logbook.

Thanks again, this is all very interesting!
