Loss of Uffz. Willibald Amann + 07.05.1941

Hi Guys,

Searching for further information regarding the loss of Uffz. Willibald Amann + who failed to return after a mission to England on 07.05.1941.
Any further details would be appreciated.

Hi Melvin,

Here is what I have He111 P-4 G1+KL 2951 of 3/KG55 mission to Liverpool (7/8th May) Ff Ltn. Alexander Wolf, B Uffz Willibald Amamm, Bf Uffz Eduard Ante, Bm Fw Paul Tibusch all missing ( status of Ff, B and Bm later changed to dead). Believed fell to Sgt. Wright and Sgt Vaughan in Beaufighter of 604 Sqd. off Portland at 0040hrs. after engagement some 15 miles south of Bournemouth the Beau. caught fire and the crew baled out but later rescued,

Melvin,

Interestingly, Willibald Amann is interred at the RN Cemetery, Portland, Dorset.
Born 26-9-1917, died 8-5-1941, it says here. Other websites say born in 1918.

Hi

You have probably seen this already, but in the Blitz Then & Now Vol 1, there is a section written by Robert Gotz who served with Willibald Amann where he talks about hearing of his loss.
