Ju 88 shot down on 28 May 1944 NE Zwickau, Saxony

Dear gents,

can anyone help me with more informations about the lost of a Ju 88 on 28 May 1944 in the area NE of Zwickau, Saxony. Perhaps it was a training or transferring flight. The Ju 88 should be shot down by american fighters. Which Fighter Squadrons made claims in this area.

Rgds,
Kaczmarek

@ digedag1

Thank you for the detailed informations. I don´t know whether 1/Lt. Perkins is the right pilot, because the 354FG is from the 9th Air Force. The 9th flew mission over France and Belgium, but the 8th bombed targets in Middle Germany on this day. The only I know is that the Ju 88 should be shot down perhaps by two american fighters.

Hello,

1/Lt William Russell Perkins (P-51B AJ-O), claimed his Ju88 at 1355, between Leipzig and Magdeburg. 2/Lts Ralph Joe Tyler and Henry B Messer, of the 380FS, shared a Ju88 probable at 1415, in the vicinity of Magdeburg and Dessau.

The 354th FG continued to operate under 8th AF through May 1944, before reverting to 9th AF for Invasion/Continenet support
