Re: Informations about Bf 109 E-1 WNr. 3619

Prien JFV, Teil 4.II, page 208:

15-Sep-1940; 3./JG 53; Uffz. Karl-Heinz Feldmann; Gelbe 2; Luftkampf, Notlandung beim Dymchurch Redoubt; 13.40 Uhr. 100%. POW.

The KRACKER list quote Prien writing Gelbe 2 + - ; which is a typo. Prien writes Gelbe 2 + correctly.

Tschüss, Franck.

Thanks Franck!

100% loss as "yellow 2"... thats not what I want to find. ;-)

The photo is the reason for my question.
It's a Bf 109 E. "Yellow M" or "White M". Balkenkreuz with the late style without the small black chevrons.

The first SKZ letter is not known... the 2nd can be "C", "G" or "S". The 3rd letter is clear a "D" and the last is IMHO also a "D".
Stammkennzeichen.de gives only this Bf 109 E-1 with NC+DD...

What you think?

Re: Informations about Bf 109 E-1 WNr. 3619

Hello David,

AH YES, This one!!!!

I think the 3rd letter is an "O"

There is a Wiener Neustadt batch apparently (One example is WN+OD) but unknown.
In both cases ??+OD or ??+DD we are missing something.

I can't do more my friend except 4.(S)/LG 2 and no chance to be an original Bf 109 E-1.

Re: Informations about Bf 109 E-1 WNr. 3619

Sorry,

SG+DY and SG+DZ are documented (See LEMB StKz data base)
If the second is an E-7 the first isn't clear (Bf 109 F or G !?).
2nd letter G is Inside possibilities you quoted. SG+DD ??? Is this the (one of) missing batch we are looking for?

I'd expect to see at least some of the first letter beneath the 'M' unless the first letter is 'L'?
Does that work in anyway?

Falcon won this auction (three or four weeks old).
There is, at least, another picture of this crash but too small to see something and infortunately same side.

Franck,
I got the other photos too, but they got not more details. Its nearly the same photo position.

Friends, I think the 3rd letter is a "D", because look at the lower left corner at this letter, its sharp and not rounded like the lower right corner.

It's a hard nut to crack. :-)

Re: Informations about Bf 109 E-1 WNr. 3619

David,

With the same "Falcon eye" I can see a curve Inside the letter as if it was an "O". But frankly it's hard to say.

However, as I wrote in my last post I think better to investigate SG+DD. That is, somewhere, I did let an open door for ??+DD! Be Happy.

Note: As I wrote, too, 4.(S)/LG 2, though it's hard to believe there is NO triangle in front of the black cross.

... Let's say that, basically, LG 2 got the Triangle in front of the cross when SG 1 got it behind, tending in account that it seems to have a transition period which, for me, hasn't been resolved, yet.

More, it's possible that all these lone letters point to an AGr. and not to LG 2 and/or SG 1. Frankly, I don't know; I need more.

Regards, Franck.
