Swastika relic??

Hello all

I was given this rather interesting section of skinning from a friend recently with a small portion of swastika showing. The information he was given was that it had originated from an unknown crash in Kent ( possibly early war ). Would like some opinions on it if possible. I know there are a lot of fakes and copies out there, so one for you rivet counters and RLM experts I reckon..

cheers

Good evening jonny !

This is very possible a part you guess. The manual, how to paint a swastika to a Luftwaffe's a/c was very strict.

You can find it in the German booklet series LUFTFAHRT international, issue No. 1 (published Jan.-Feb. 1974) at page 151 under the section 3. "Hakenkreuz am Seitenleitwerk".

The measurements given in this manual, compared with your photo, are conclusive.

So, on my opinion, you showed an original part with a little part of a swastika.

The size of the "white"-line in centimeters could be interesting to find out the type (fighter, bomber, FW 200 ???) of this a/c.

Best wishes !

Hello Horst Weber

Many thanks for the information, it was very helpful..

I have measured the white line and it is 1.2cm. I hope this helps you identify the aircraft type..

many thanks again for your help

Good morning Jonny !

Thank you for youre measurement. Unfortunately, I can't come around with 1.2cm.
For really 1.2 cm (12 mm) the diameter-size of the white line is to small. Could it be 12 cm (120mm) probably ?. Or 10.2 cm (102mm)?.

Thanks !

Again, could this be another professional fake? I am sure that Andy Saunders would like to comment with his previous knowledge

Re: Swastika relic??

I'm a newbie here but I make my living dealing in parts like this. Regarding authenticity: can we see a picture of the back?

That might also help with identification. Anodized (yellow) aluminum would indicate a Junkers built machine, for example.

These things are easy to fake poorly, but near impossible to fake convincingly. That's one reason why I got into collecting them over medals or autographs.

Interesting. Not to veer too far from the subject at hand, but as the rarity of parts like this increases it might be worth the trouble to compile a guide on determining authenticity. Rivet types, alloys, paint and primers are dead giveaways in most cases, if you know what to look for.

I'd say 100% certainly a piece of aircraft wreckage....but....!!

The colour and river lines are not convincing me. Yet.
