9./JG26 Pilot - 1940

Is anyone able to identify this 9./JG26 pilot? Photo taken on Channel Coast, 1940.

Re: 9./JG26 Pilot - 1940

Hi Andy,

I know this photo from the Steve Hall collection, I believe it came with the Fronhöfer collection. Could he be Fronhöfer's wing man. I am also interested in the identity of this pilot.

Regards

Melvin

He looks a little like 9./JG26 Staka Gerhard Schopfel, the nose and hair at least.

Hello friends,

i dont think it is Schöpfel, because we are looking at an Unteroffizier.
Sorry, but can not help further.

Norbert

I cannot see anyone personnel in John Vasco's 9./JG26 book who looks like him either...

Here's a pic of Fronhofer taken on what appears to be the same aircraft compared with the OP's photo. Notice the smudge on the lower cowling under his elbow.

Re: 9./JG26 Pilot - 1940

Perhaps you could be correct!

Certainly seems to be a photograph taken at the same time, and of the same aircraft.
