I/KG40 Attack on Glasgow 28/29 November 1940
Could someone conversant with I/KG40 give me some advice please? My understanding of this unit is that it was formed to undertake maritime operations with FW200s and He111s. However I have read that I/KG40 was involved in an attack on its own on Glasgow on 28/29 November 1940. There was a heavy attack on Liverpool and Birkenhead that night also and I am assuming that this unit flew on up to attack Glasgow but it seems strange that a unit dedicated to maritime ops should have been involved on a such a raid. Is it possible that He111s from this unit were involved in minelaying ops on the River Clyde?
