Seeking ID and location of He111 reported FL at "St. Erne" during the WC/FC.

Hello,

Trying to put an ID on this He111 posted to eBay:

The seller captions says this was "bei St. Erne." I find no such place in my "google maps" search. Does anyone know where this is? France or Belgium?

Other than very dark, possibly red, prop spinners, no codes, unit insignia or other distinguishing markings are visible which would allow me to run it against known crashes in the EoE photo DB.

Does anyone either recognize this place or the aircraft itself?

Hello,

This sounds like probably the referenced location. Now can anyone place an He111 down there? This is definitely in the area for the Western Campaign, rather than an incident from the Battle of Britain.

There are almost certainly other photos out there of this intact FL, some of which may display aircraft codes, which would be a great help in identifying this photo.

Got it; this is a case where the seller caption was grossly misleading. We already have something like seven photos of this crash, but just didn't recognize it and mislead by the caption.

According to the revised EoE Luft Loss DB: 10 May 1940: "5./KG4 Heinkel He111P-2. Shot down by Fokker G1 of 3-II-1 (1e Lt Kuipers & Sgt Venema) and belly-landed at Rosmalen, north of 's-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands), 4.15 a.m. BF Uffz Hans Zitzmann captured badly wounded in both arms and left leg, treated at Missiehaus Paters van Nuland. FF Uffz Gotthard Klenk, BM Uffz Willi Wiebke, and BO Gefr Rudolf Schlegel captured unhurt – all later released. Aircraft 5J+JN 100% write-off."
