How did you come to that conclusion? Which serial number did c/n 7690 have in your opinion? Cheers Stig |

Re: Info needed on B-17G c/n 7690
Thank you Udf
Yes that is the general wisdom, ie Boeing giving c/n plates in USAAF s/n order. But do we know that for a fact? Anyone who has checked any surviving B-17 physically? Since Del came up with something totally against general wisdom, I thought he and possibly Harrison knew something I DIDN'T know. So Harrison, why is c/n 7690 interesting to you, and why do you use its c/n and not the aircraft's s/n? Del, how come you came up with something which goes against what has been published so far? Cheers Stig |

Re: Info needed on B-17G c/n 7690
hello Stig,
![]() The c/n number request could have been only part of the full serial number. for example the request could have been for c/n 7690 or in other words for c/n 8668 B-17G-70-BO xxx Usaaf serial number 43-37690 But the request did specify c/n 7690Alex |

Re: Info needed on B-17G c/n 7690
Hey guys...
I ask because someone in Europe is offering the main data plate from the aircraft. it is the standard Boeing oval data plate with the following information. Model - B17-G Serial - 7690 Engine - Wright Type - R-1820-97 A.C.T.C No. - W535-AC20292 it is definitely an original one...seller is asking 500,00 euro...which is far too much. i thought it may have some significance...? Re: Info needed on B-17G c/n 7690
Alex
Smart thinking However Mike's reply makes it clear we are talking about a c/n plate and it seems pretty conclusive it has been taken from a crash place. So, now we are only waiting for Del's answer if he knows anything which goes against the general wisdom of Boeing c/n vs USAAF s/n or if he simply made a mistake. Mike Udf is correct (if general wisdom is followed) that c/n 7690 was 42-97217 and the code JW-L belonged to 92BG and its 326 BS. Cheers Stig |
