Officer Career Database

We would like to announce the availability of the latest version (April 2014) of the Luftwaffe Officer Career Summaries at:
http://www.ww2.dk/lwoffz.html

This version has over 1,500 additions and over 3,000 supplemented existing cases compared to last year's version. Here are some more exact statistics:

Section A-Z has 8,855 officers over 480 pages
Section G-K has 9,902 officers over 450 pages
Section L-R has 9,102 officers over 414 pages
Section S-Z has 9,969 officers over 467 pages
Total has 37,828 officers over 1,811 pages

Increases:
A-Z = +716
G-K = +319
L-R = +262
S-Z = +265
Total= +1,562

As always, we welcome corrections and additions. We are especially appreciative of donations of data from private collections. This past year we have received some extremely generous donations of data. All this contributes to the greater good for the study of the history of the Luftwaffe.

Feedback should be directed to: Luftoffzfeedback@shaw.ca

Doug and Larry:

Add my thanks and appreciation for your work and the enormity of what it took (takes) to do this. We have come a long way haven't we?

Just out of curiosity, what percentage of total officers to you estimate you have captured?

John

Re: Officer Career Database

John - about 32% - 35% of all Truppenoffiziere, Offiziere der Reserve and Kriegsoffiziere who served in the Luftwaffe 1935-45. As we noted in the Introduction, we generally excluded all Leutnante and all Oberleutnante unless they held a position of authority (Staka, Stafü, Adjutant, Zugführer, etc.). The remainder we have not been able to access because it would require permission from BA-MA to photograph the LPA Karteikarten in Freiburg. They will not grant this permission because of German Privacy Act laws. All attempts to work something out with them have failed. Each officer would have to be treated individually with separate paperwork and bureaucratic approval. A process that would cost tens of thousands and take far, far longer than any of use have left.
