Sinking of Aeger 9 Apr 40
Hptm Walter Storp, St Kap of 8/KG 4, was apparently credited with the sinking of the above Norwegian destroyer at Amoyfjorden on the afternoon of 9 Apr 40. Is this correct and was 8/KG 4 flying Ju 88 as opposed to He 111s?

Re: Sinking of Aeger 9 Apr 40
Hi Chris
Seekrieg has Aeger as a Torpedo Boat (at 735ts that seems a better term, and this is what the Germans classed them as after their capture), rather than a destroyer, and has her sunk by III./KG4 (which would presumably include 8. Staffel). All I can find indicates they were flying He 111P at the time, but I have no primary sources covering this campaign. Horst Niehorster has them with this type too: http://niehorster.orbat.com/011_germ...lw_flk_10.html All the best Andreas

By WW2 a torpedo boat in the RN was a small coastal craft (E-boat equivalent) while other navies, the Kriegsmarine included, still used the term for something a little smaller than a destroyer but looking very much like one. |

Re: Sinking of Aeger 9 Apr 40
What Nick said.
In the Royal Navy, this would have been a Sloop I believe.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grimsby-class_sloop In fairness, the Norwegians did call them destroyers, but one could argue that that doesn't make it so. All the best Andreas
