![]() Sorry if asking an obvious thing but - that mission when S/L Scherf, flying a Mosquito of 418 Sqn, knocked down five enemy a/c (16th May 1944) - was it a night Intruder mission or day Ranger mission?
One more thing - Andrew Thomas in his book "Mosquito Aces of World War 2" mentions that one of Scherf's victims fell near "Parrow airfield, on the German coast". Where is it? There is a place named Prerow nearby. Is it the one? Last edited by Lagarto; 4th March 2006 at 23:15. |

Re: S/L Scherf & S/L Cleveland - 16th May 1944
Hi:
My understanding is this was a Day Ranger sortie. You're looking for Parow, which is about 5km NNW of Stralsund, on the coast on the west side of what my map says is called the "Kubitzer Bodden." Cheers, Mark |

Re: S/L Scherf & S/L Cleveland - 16th May 1944
According to the ORB for 418, the Scherf/Finlayson crew were on a Day Ranger that day. Others from 418 that day were Kerr/Clark, Jasper/Martin and Cleveland/Day.
No doubt, Scherf/Finlayson were quite successful that day! HTH Mark Proulx |
