43-22027
Hi Folks,
I am wondering if anybody knows the letter code of A-20J-20-DO S/N: 43-22027, lost on February 2, 1945 over Germany near Liblar-Bruhl from 9th AAF, 409th BG. (Any pictures?) And ... any info on 43-22028, or the ones between 43-22023-43-22026? (Photo, assignment, letter-code, fate, etc.) Thanks, Gabor |

Re: 43-22027
Enter your location and perhaps a Library could help you out?
http://www.worldcat.org/title/histor...=brief_results or you could join www.Fold3.com for a 7 day free trial and pull up the MACR for 43-22027(and others) which may contain the letter code. Regards, |

Re: 43-22027
Thanks a lot, I know MACR of 43-22027, but it mentions no letter code. I was hoping that maybe a group historian has a list of planes or something like that. Thanks,

Re: 43-22027
Hello Gabor,
409th BG, 642nd BS Squadron code was "D6" and would have been used along with an individual a/c in squadron letter. But I am wondering about the MACR, it has after the a/c serial number the number "20". Not to be confused with the a/c type which is recorded in the macr as an A-20J-20-DO. Did this a/c not have the usual Group markings ? but the number "20" perhaps on its tail unit ?? why else record the "20" after the serial number ? Other macr's that have these remarks ? I have seen Fighter Group macr's with the squadron code and a/c letter after the serial number as in this case. So my money for now is on this a/c being numbered "20". All the best Alex |

Re: 43-22027
Thanks Alex,
but I doubt it would mean the plane ID. That unit used letters for ID, not numbers. That 20 probably meant A-20J-20-DO, the version, or subtype of the plane. Thanks, Gabor |

Re: 43-22027
Thank you. My only concern is that this plane was an OD one and had a large plexiglas navigator cabin in the nose, not a solid gun-installation. Question is if this is a drawing after a real plane (note, or photo), or just fantasy... Thanks again,
Gabor |
