KTB 2./606. 19 September 1939

If some out there has a copy of the KTB for 2./606 for September 1939, I would be very pleased if they would look at the entry for 19 September 1939 and see if it mentions an encounter between an RAF Anson aircraft and a German Do.18 over the North Sea.

If any one has it, it will be Robert in Poland and he says he hasn't got it. My 606 KTB starts in May 40

Chris,
Like the eternal optimist, I like to believe that something will turn up. And it does - sometimes.

Re: KTB 2./606. 19 September 1939

Hi,

I have infos on this squadron till 7.9.39. And then from 15.10.39 after it had been renumbered to 2./906. I will check and see to which K.Fl.Gr. it was subordinated.
BTW the KTB of 2./306 mentions that on 19.9.39 two enemy aicraft were sighted during the reconnaissance but there was no engagement.

Regards

Robert

Re: KTB 2./606. 19 September 1939

Hi Bill, I would suggest that you got a copy of the KTB for F.d.L.West for September 1939 to whom the 2./606 was subordinated at that time. Unfortunately, my copies of these KTB's starts on 1.1.1940. Another possibility is the KTB for Stab K.Fl.Gruppe 306 that controlled all three Staffeln in Hörnum.

Thanks to Chris, Robert and Seaplanes. Seaplanes , I've posted your recommendation under separate cover - hopefully, it will stand out more that way.

Re: KTB 2./606. 19 September 1939

Hi Robert,

Further to my email, here is the KTB entry for 2./606 for 19.9.39. Unfortunately there is nothing else that I can see in the document (of which, my copy is very difficult to read). If I come across anything further I will let you know.

Cheers

Adam

Re: KTB 2./606. 19 September 1939

Thank you Adam, that page of the KTB did help a lot. The aircraft in question was Do 18D-3 W.Nr. 815 with unit code 8L+EK that at 10.05 reported that an Anson aircraft made four attacks on their aircraft but then broke off the engagement. The do 18 was undamaged.
The crew was: Lt.z.See Helmut Kühl, Fw. Kurt Heinreiche (also seen as Hinrichs) and Ufw. Otto Klepzig + one not identified with that last name Freiling. The first three became POW's on 11.04.40 when this, the same aircraft as 19.9.39, was shot down by Hudson N7217 of No. 224 Sq. off Kinnaird Head.

@ Bill:
Just re-read this thread - sincere apologies for mistakenly answering 'Robert' in my previous post. Had just read your other thread that Robert answered when I got to this one, hence the confusion. Not enough sleep while being on the road. Not a good enough apology, I know. Still, hope the file helps.

@ Seaplanes:
Thanks for the info. Quick question on why Hinrichs/Heinreiche is so markedly different and where the other spelling comes from?
