Stencil on Fw 190 A-8

Hello

I am wondering if anyone here would have an idea of what the hand applied stencil on Fw 190 A-8 "Red 3" (W.Nr. 171 641) flown by Feldwebel Konrad Bauer (57 victories, RK) of 5./JG 300 refers to? The stencil in question can be seen behind him beneath the cockpit sill. Any responses will be appreciated.

Horrido!

Leo

The wording is: Anlaßkraftstoff 3ltr. in English: Primer fuel 3 liters

Stencil on Fw 190 A-8

Hello von Lutz

Many thanks for your input. I was thinking that the stencil referred to the primer fuel fill point but wished for a second opinion. Continuing with the subject of stencils I have come across what may be a photograph of the starboard side of this particular aircraft. Unfortunately, it is of quite poor quality but it does appear to me that the stencil applied over the first aid hatch behind the fuselage balkenkreuz can be seen. Does anyone care to opine if they see this as well or is it a figment of my imagination?

Horrido!

Leo

Your eyes are better than mine, I don't see anything and any attempt to enlarge the foto doesn't help.

Stencil on Fw 190 A-8

Hi guys

Thanks for your comments. I have written the webmaster of the site where I sourced the image concerning if he has a higher resolution version of this photograph available but no response yet. I did outline in red the area in question since it does appear to be quite difficult to see what I am referring to. Unfortunately, since the image is of such poor quality it is hard to distinguish if this is the small red cross stencil applied to the first aid hatch or simply a flaw in the image. I believe it to be the former but perhaps I am in error.

Horrido!

Stencil on Fw 190 A-8

Hi guys

I was correct! The first aid hatch and stencil clearly appear in this image posted by Michael Meyer on his eBay webpage. I am rather excited to see this as it is the first photographic proof that I have seen that some Fw 190 A-8 fighters had both the primer fuel fill point on the port fuselage and the first aid hatch on the starboard fuselage. It should be pointed out that early production Fw 190 A-8 fighters did not have the primer fuel fill point and late production Fw 190 A-8 fighters did not have the first aid hatch.
