S/Ldr Peter Frank Steib (112549), RAFVR

Trying to flesh out my bare bones knowledge of this officer. This is what I have thus far:

1943: 257 Sqn; Bf 109 (actually Fw 190?) claimed on 7/4/43

1944: 122 Sqn; ground claims incl. JuW 34 and Ju 88 destroyed, 30/4/44 and 6/5/44 respectively

1945: 234 Sqn; CO 4/45-12/45

1946: 93 Sqn; CO 1/46-8/46

His DFC citation indicates three destroyed 'in air fighting'. Any further information would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Bruce

I was in touch with Peter as was Geoff Rayner. My only interest was his 190 kill in April 1943 whilst Geoff's would have been 257 Sqn only. You might like to PM Geoff?

Hi Bruce

I didn't think Peter Steib was an Aussie?

He seems to have moved around quite a lot between the Mustang sqns.

I've got him on 19Sqn on Mustangs from 20/2/44 to 20/4/44. Then he was posted in to 122Sqn on 21/4/44 as B Flight Commander.

Steve

Bruce

Not sure you have Shores' Those other Eagles. If not I can state what it says.
Please confirm if needed or not.

It would appear all he was credited with was one in the air and 2 on the ground

Thanks for your replies Chris, Steve and Stig.

Yes, knew he wasn't an Aussie, Steve, just trying to expand my horizons!

I have since found his entry in 'TOE', which I obviously should have consulted before posting my query here; thanks for the offer Stig.

Cheers,

Bruce
