Crash site of a Lancaster query

A friend on another board is looking for a more exact location for the crash site of a 103 Squadron Lancaster Mk 1 flown by S/L KG Bickers, serial no ME665.

Quote:
Hi Folks,

I am having a bit of trouble finding the crash site of a Lancaster shot down on the 24th March 1944.

It was a 103 Squadron Lancaster Mk 1 flown by S/L KG Bickers, serial no ME665

His brother wants to visit the crash site, which he has been told is near Janickendorf, but the records say Luckenwalde - which is nearby. Both are a bit to the south of Berlin.

Is there any way of getting a more accurate location - say a map reference?

He has just told me that his son is taking him to Berlin on the anniversary of his brothers death, so I am a bit short of time!

Any help, or additional information, would be much appreciated.

Kutscha, if you live near there you might have to look at the town/community archive to see if the registered the shoot down. Danny

Re: Crash site of a Lancaster query

Danny, Theo and the original poster have been in contact.

The Lanc was shot down by Lt. Heinz Bergel of 2./NJG5. He was killed 11-12.6.44 at Moussy-le-Vieux near Paris, shot down by Allied fighter.

next question: who shot down Lt Bergel in his Bf110?

One possible :
F/L Denis WELFARE (119194) & F/O David Benjamin BELIS (142922) in Mosquito NF Mk.II DZ256 HB°U of 239 Sq claimed a Bf 110 near PARIS on 11/12 JUN 1944.
