Loss of 4./LG 1, 27 April 1940

Hello,

On 27 April 1940 a section of Skuas of 801 Sqn engaged a raid of ten He 111s of II./LG 1 and attacked two aircraft of 4. Staffel over Lesjaskog. One of them was shot down and crashed in a forest. Fw Werner Schulz and his crew were captured by Norwegians and then shipped to Britain.

I would like to have the full crew list for this aircraft and the place where it crashed.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Matti,

I had both Schulz and Schadach as "crew leaders", and suspected one of them to be the pilot and the other the observer, but had no clue who was who.

As for the location, Aandalnes was the global area of loss. One source gave Dombas area, and it is fairly possible to be true. The British pilots recorded to have intercepted the bombers over Lesjaskog, that is just midway between Aandalnes and Dombas, about 20 km from both as the crow flies.

Laurent,

Here is what we carry in the EoE LW Loss DB:

"27 April 1940: 4./LG1 Heinkel He111H-2. Badly damaged in attacks by Skuas of No.801 (FAA) Squadron (Lt R.L. Strange, Sub Lt J.B. Marsh, and Mdsm G.C. Baldwin) following bombing of Åndalsnes and forced-landed near Dombås. FF Uffz Heinz Schadach, BO Fw Werner Schütz, BF Obergefr Hans Mork, and BS Fw Arthur Merda all captured unhurt. Aircraft L1+BM fired by crew 100% write-off. (Weiss)."

Anybody have any photos of this FL?
