Info needed: Allied two engine a/c loss, Geel, Belgium

Hallo to everyone.

Has anyone got info on an Allied loss between Geel and the Alberts Kanal around 17-19 September 1944?

An eye-witness asked me to help ID a two-engined aircraft, which flew over her home, with the left engine on fire. She saw one person on a parachute and then saw the aircraft explode and maps rain down around her. The plane then impacted the ground about one kilometer from her location.

I could not find a Carrier Command loss in that area and as I am not near my own records for another two weeks, wonder if any of you Experten have a lead for me?

Thanks, Danny

Re: Info needed: Allied two engine a/c loss, Geel, Belgium

Assuming the lady is/was from (around) Geel and speaks Dutch, perhaps the story here about two C-47 crashes in the Geel area may be interesting: http://www.bloggen.be/warresearcher/...tum=1253743201

I agree with Alain that a C-47 is the most likely type there and then.

Regards,

Leendert

Hello,
Yes I know, but on september 17, 1944 no P38 crashed in or near
De Steeg (East of Arnhem)!
I Have a report that mentions Deschell, now Dessel (grid K-1496) as the place were O'Donnel came down!
Target area for this Fighter Group was Eindhoven! The FG reached Eindhoven at 13.00 hours.
