B-29, P-51 and more, help with photos
Dear forum members! Looking for help with these photos, all are originated from the same photo album. I guess they were taken post war somewhere in USA, may be they could be dated as well.
#1 and #2 - what models/types are these planes? Post war planes ain't well known to me ; ( #3 B-29 "Superfortress" - any chance to tell from what unit is this plane? Note that there is a # on a tail under big "3", this is 521670 or 521870. #4. What variant of P-51 is this? Thanks in advance for any comments on these images! Best regards, Alexander |

Re: B-29, P-51 and more, help with photos
Photo one is two Lockheed P-80A-1-LO Shooting Stars (or F-80A-1-LO, depending on the date).
Photo 2 is a Fairchild C-82 Packet. Photo 3 is a Boeing B-29-100-BW Superfortress. Can't make out the serial in photo 4, but I think it is a P-51K. |

Re: B-29, P-51 and more, help with photos
Almost a year late on this one! The B-29 has a "buzz" marking on the aft fuselage BF-870, so I would suggest the serial number is 45-21870. It is interesting to note that wiki and one other site, show BF to be a B-29 from perhaps Boeing Field, although the airplane was manufactured in Wichita.
It is also interesting to note that Joe Baughers site of serial numbers, http://www.joebaugher.com/usaf_serials/1945.html , shows 45-21867 as the last B-29 delivered. So, to speculate, this B-29 is one left over at Boeing. |

Re: B-29, P-51 and more, help with photos
I thought that the BF code was to identify the aircraft type, as the sixth bomber type in the inventory. Nothing to do with the place of manufacture.
