Damaged plain in Larissa airfield

Hi,

I am trying to find information about this Do 17 Z. I can read it`s Kenn/Nr. as 5K+G..., that means III./KG 3. I suppose the airfield is in Larissa/Greece.
The loss of such a plane is not registered in the lists of Qu.M. 6. Can any one help?

thx Byron

Re: Damaged plain in Larissa airfield

I wasn't going to say anything, but now that Byron's latest pic captioned 'Salonika' has been posted, I will tell you: that mountain in the background of the first picture made me think immediately of the prominent peak to the east of Thessaloniki. It was nicknamed 'The Devil's Eye' by Tommys in WW1 because of the shape of an exposed seam of marble (maybe granite?) on the south facing slope.
Here are links to images on the web showing the mountain that illustrate it well enough:

The pictures are not mine, I just found them with a quick search.

Hope this isn't a wild goose chase, but it looks exactly like the first picture when viewed from the road, which I do a couple of times every year.
Bruce

Re: Damaged plain in Larissa airfield

I think we talked about this plane back n January

http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=40147

Now I looked deeper in some old scrap folders and found four sample shots of this plane from various ebay auctions, some very old. Interestingly, one I have marked as being taken at Korinth (probably because the seller marked it so), another at Lamia and third at Kozani?! However, there is only a proof for Kozani from the back of one of them. I think it is the machine mentioned by Merlin.

Cheers,
Boris
