Nahaufklärungsstaffel 1./31 (Nacht) losses 1945.

Is anyone able to help with details of the respective aircraft and crews of the following losses incurred by Nahaufklärungsstaffel 1./31 (Nacht) in 1945:

17.2.45: Fw 189 A-2 shot down by AA-fire SE of Gross-Strehlitz, 100%, 1 WIA and 2 MIA.

17.3.45: Fw 189 A-2 crashed SE of Münsterberg, 100%, 2 killed.

As always, any help whatsoever will be very well recieved.

Regards Richard.

Guys, private emails are fine, but, if you are sharing data based on the thread, it would be nice to post it here on the forum so we can all learn.

John

That is indeed an oversight on my behalf although nothing untoward was intended. It is simply a case that I exchange several e-mails with Alexander relating to Luftwaffe research, and in this instance he was pointing myself to check my e-mails as he had included this information along with a whole host of other research information I had asked him of.

Anyway you are right, and to set the record straight:

17.2.45: Fw 189 A-2 shot down by AA-fire SE of Gross-Strehlitz, 100%, 1 WIA and 2 MIA. Flugzeugführer Feldwebel Hans Mündel and Bordschütze Gefreiter Norbert Sturm were reported as Vermißt, while Beobachter Unteroffizier Herbert Abel was wounded.

17.3.45: Fw 189 A-2 crashed SE of Münsterberg, 100%, 2 killed. Both Unteroffizier Horst Mai and Unteroffizier Willy Thiele were killed in the crash.

Regards Richard.

Jim, thank you for your post.

That is indeed the information I was provided initially, which I duly summarised above, although I must admit that I did omit the Werk Nr's of the 2 aircraft.

Regards Richard.

Re: Nahaufklärungsstaffel 1./31 (Nacht) losses 1945.

Another question, does anyone understand how the numbering of these units worked — NAG 1./31, 13./14 etc.?

It seems odd when the system had been simplified for the Bf 109 formations, NAG 1, 2, 3 and so on.
