Fw 190 A-4/U7

Three A-3s (WNr. 528, 530 & 531) were modified for high altitude interception under the designation A-3/U7, changed into A-4/U7 in December 1942.
However, there is a well-known photograph of "Wutz" Galland's A-4/U7 sporting the WNr. 7092.
My question is: how many more A-4/U7s were produced?

Thanks in advance.

Chris

Re: Fw 190 A-4/U7

Chris,

There is the Jet & Prop 2010/4 article on the Fw190A first high-altitude fighters written by Dietmar Hermann. There you can find a photo of Hptm. Egon Mayer's Fw 190 A-4 with I understand additional air intakes for improved high-altitude performance.

In the article it was stated that there was an unspecified number of the Fw 190 A-4 aircraft I understand "converted" this way for the above purpose. The article stops short of calling the converted Focke-Wulfs the Fw 190 A-4/U7 though.

Regards,
Sinisa

Fw 190 A-4/U7

Hi guys

I know of Fw 190 A-4/U7 (W.Nr. 0140 634) of Stab/JGr Ost flown by Major Hermann Graf, Fw 190 A-4/U7 "Black <<" (W.Nr. 0147 092) of Stab II./JG 26 flown by Hauptmann Wilhelm-Ferdinand Galland and Fw 190 A-4/U7 "White <<" (W.Nr. 0142 472) of Stab III./JG 2 flown by Hauptmann Egon Mayer. In addition, the Flugzeugbestand und Bewegungsmeldungen of Stab/JG 2 lists three Fw 190 A-4/U7 aircraft on strength from December 1942 through July 1943. Any comments or corrections will be most welcome.

Horrido!

Leo
