Ludwig Dokman, KG40, He111

Hello guys

I have been using this forum several times for researching items but finally found an occasion to ask a question here too myself.

I owe the flight book of Ludwig Dokman, member of the 3.K.G.40 8th Staffel. It starts on 17 April 1939 and ends abruptly On 22.8.41 when Dokman probably flew his 3rd feindflug.

His first combat mission states the following:
14.08.1941 Attack on Convoy 05 Ost 1489 + attack on Great Yarmouth (8 hits)
Flying plane He111 F8+ES

Second combat mission states:
19.08.1941 Attack on Convoy 05 Ost 1488 + attack on Lowestoft (target not recognized)
Flying plane He111 F8+BS

Then came 3 other types of flights on 20.08 and 22.08 and suddenly there are no other entries.

I had questions:

1) Can I suppose that he crashed at 23/24/25/26.08?
2) If he crashed, he probably flew a He111 with F8 number. Is is known which of the planes of KG40 crashed in this week?
3) Is there any other info about Dokman known?

Thank you very much

Giel

Re: Ludwig Dokman, KG40, He111

Interesting, but not 4./KG 40 logbooks I have been looking for.
Yes, these losses for III/KG 40 are all known:

F8+ES
was probably the He 111 H-5 F8+ES W.Nr. 4070 missing 19.08.41 (Nordsee) w. other crew of four - but they returned five days later.

F8+BS was probably the He 111 H-5 F8+BS W.Nr. 4081 missing 24.08.41 ("Ostküste England")
with Pilot "Gefr. Gerhard Dohmen" + 3 crew. One of these was reported killed 03.10.41, Dohmen and other remain missing AFAIK

I will look up the actual GQM record and check on spelling of them. Stand by ... but yes, his name is spelled that way in GQM loss listings.

Gefr Ludwig Dohmen born 15 June 18 in Düsseldorf. EKM 53544/110. NVM adds little else. However, the Wells that Matti refers to is not correct-this combat took place off the Norfolk (east) coast and Cunningham was operating from Coltishall. Faath was washed ashore 31 Aug 41 and buried at Great Bircham

Re: Ludwig Dokman, KG40, He111

Sorry for wrong info, but had taken "Wells" from the book "The Blitz Then and Now", Volume 3, Page 68. It seems that I have made a huge misinterpretation when placing this on the map and correct should be "Wells-next-the-Sea". Is this correct or is there still more places called "Wells"?

Re: Ludwig Dokman, KG40, He111

Wells next to the Sea is correct- for the body to be washed up near Wells in Somerset is impossible. An easy mistake to make-look at Kristiansand and Kristiansund & the RAF transport flight that got it wrong!

Excerpt from Rawnsley's "Night Fighter"
http://ww2today.com/23rd-august-1941...-the-north-sea
35 miles NW of Coltishall seems coherent with NW of Wells-next-the-Sea.
