Ljt Gennady Fyodorov of 147-IAP killed

Hi guys

Bf109s escorted Ju88s to Murmansk on 27 June 1941, and engaged I-153s and I-16s; Ljt Gennady Fyodorov of 147-IAP was shot down and killed. Did he fall to Ju88 gunners or to a Bf109?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Brian

Re: Ljt Gennady Fyodorov of 147-IAP killed

Hi Brian,

I'd like to know more about this engagement myself. I am of the understanding that the Germans claimed 3 kills by unspecified pilots and that in return, at least one Soviet pilot was KIA, St.Lt. Leonid Ilarionovich Ivanov.

Re: Ljt Gennady Fyodorov of 147-IAP killed

Hopefully this is of some help or interest:

The 147 IAP lost in aereal combat 11 fighters during the period of 22.6.-9.7.1941 and according to Soviet sources all these losses were due to enemy fighters. The 147 IAP made not any "taran" claims during the period of 22.6.-9.7.1941.

When it comes to the claims of German fighters at the Northern flank of East Front during the period of 22.6.-9.7.1941, about half of them appear to be accurate (or can be verified from the loss records of Soviet air units) during the period of 22.6.-9.7.1941 (overclaiming ratio about 2:1).

Re: Ljt Gennady Fyodorov of 147-IAP killed

Thanks for that

My notes show seven pilots of 147-IAP killed in the period 24 June-9 July (Chudinov, Fyodorov, Ivanov, Romas, Yefremov, Budanov and Antoniuc); perhaps the pilots of the other four indicated losses survived, although have claims for three unidentified fighters by I and IV/JG77 pilots on 8 July.

Any information welcomed, please

Cheers
Brian
