Did this 2./JG54 Bf109E Come down on German or French Territory on 19 January 1940
Hello,
Bantzenheim is in France, but not sure about Grunbütte. On which side of the German/French boarder did this aircraft crash: "19 January 1940: 2./JG54 Messerschmitt Bf109E-1 (6037). Engaged on escort sortie for Hs126 and Do17 and shot down by S/Lt Gruyelle of GC II/7 in combat 10 km north-east of Mühlhausen. Abandoned over Grunhütte, south-east of Bantzenheim 11.15 a.m. (Ff) Uffz Wolfgang Wagner badly wounded and burned, baled out and captured - transported to hospital at Cernay where left foot amputated. Aircraft Red 5 + 100% write-off." Regardless, do photos exist of this crashed a/c? |
